About Dresden

Dresden, the capital of Saxony, is situated along the Elbe River in eastern Germany near the Czech and Polish borders.

The city’s historic center features restored baroque architecture, including the Frauenkirche and Zwinger palace, reflecting extensive post-1945 reconstruction.

The Dresden Elbe Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004, covers the city center and the nearby Pillnitz Palace and gardens. Visitors often time their trips for the summer months to coincide with extended daylight and Elbe River cruises. The Striezelmarkt, Germany’s oldest Christmas market dating back to 1434, attracts visitors annually from late November to December 24.
